Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add applesauce, eggs one at a time, vanilla extract, and milk to the creamed mixture; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually fold in dry ingredients until just combined; gently stir in chopped apples.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While cooling, prepare frosting by creaming together softened butter, caramel sauce, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and powdered sugar until smooth.
