  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
  • 1/8 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 large egg whites
  • Graham cracker crumbs

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine lukewarm milk and water. Add yeast and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt, melted butter, and gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 30 minutes).
  4. Prepare the filling by melting cocoa powder, chocolate chips, cream, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and salt together over low heat.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle and spread the chocolate filling on top. Sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs.
  6. Roll up tightly into a log shape and cut into equal pieces; place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Beat egg whites until foamy; gradually add sugar to form stiff peaks. Spread over rolls.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown; return to oven for an additional 5–7 minutes to brown the meringue.
