  • 1 kg waxy potatoes (Ratte, Monalisa, or Charlotte)
  • 200 ml crème fraîche
  • 100 ml milk
  • 20 g butter
  • 150 g grated cheese (Comté, Emmental, or Gruyère)
  • 1 finely sliced onion
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • Fresh thyme and bay leaf
  • Salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
  3. In a pan, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine crème fraîche, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and thyme; mix well.
  5. Layer half the sliced potatoes in a baking dish. Add half of the sautéed onion mixture and pour half of the cream mixture over it. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  6. Top with grated cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes; remove the foil in the last 15 minutes to brown the cheese.
