  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (divided)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lay the puff pastry flat on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine almond paste, butter, granulated sugar, and half the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling down the center of the pastry.
  5. Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry about an inch apart.
  6. Fold the strips over the filling alternately to create a braided look.
  7. Brush the top with remaining egg wash and sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
