  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temp)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup cake flour (sifted)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (room temp)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 5 tsp cinnamon
  • 8oz cream cheese
  • 8oz butter
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together oil and room temperature butter until smooth. Add sugar and mix well. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract until creamy.
  3. In another bowl, combine sifted cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to wet ingredients while alternating with sour cream and milk until just combined.
  4. For the cinnamon swirl mixture, combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner halfway with batter, sprinkle on some cinnamon swirl mixture, then add more batter until two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for about 16 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before preparing the frosting by beating cream cheese and butter together until smooth; gradually add confectioners sugar and vanilla extract.
  8. Frost cooled cupcakes generously with cream cheese frosting.
