Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oranges
  • 3 cups (600g) sugar
  • 1 2/3 cups (400ml) water
  • Spices (cinnamon, cloves, star anise)
  • Your preferred chocolate for dipping

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the oranges into rounds about 0.3 inches thick. Optional: Boil in water for 5-10 minutes to reduce bitterness.
  2. In a large pot, combine sugar, spices, and water. Stir until dissolved over medium heat; then add orange slices to the mixture.
  3. Simmer the orange slices in syrup on low heat for about 1.5 hours until they are tender and translucent.
  4. Drain the orange slices in a colander and place them on paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  5. Arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 212°F (100°C) for 30 minutes total (15 minutes on each side) to firm up.
  6. Cool completely before dipping each slice in melted chocolate. Let excess chocolate drip off and set them on parchment paper until hardened.
